Students at Popplewell Elementary receive a fresh fruit or vegetable during their school day as a part of the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program. The program introduces students to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample. From beets to snow peas to rutabagas to kiwis to jicama, the program also opens the door to nutrition education and helps children form healthy eating habits for life.
