BHS Distance Learning Plan | Buhl High School

Hello parents and students,

I hope you are all well during this unsettling time. As you know, there is a soft closure of all schools.  No students will be allowed on campus, which means educational services will be delivered through distance learning. We know that staff, parents and students are experiencing something we have never dealt with before and patience and flexibility will be necessary for everyone. It is our goal to keep our students and community safe while providing instructional services under these difficult circumstances. Services will be pushed out starting the week of March 30th.

The following is our plan for high school:

  • Teachers will be providing instruction equivalent to a minimum of 3 hours a week utilizing a digital platform. 7 classes x 3 hours a week = 21 hours a week or approximately 4 hours per day. Dual credit courses have different requirements per the college/university they are working through. Teachers will stay in contact with parents and will communicate with their administration regarding progress.

  • Hard copies will be provided to those without internet access upon request. Please contact the office to request a packet. Packets can be picked up and dropped off at the high school from 11 am - noon on Wednesdays. If you ride a bus, packets will be delivered and picked up on your regular route.

  • SPED/504/EL: Classroom teachers will provide accommodations in their coursework as per each student’s IEP/504/ELP. In addition, SPED/EL staff will make contact with their students twice a week to check-in and provide support where needed.

  • Each teacher has established office hours where they will be available to students virtually. Office hours are posted in Google Classroom as well as on the district website. Google Classroom codes are also on the website.

State requirements:

  • Graduation: All seniors will continue to be able to progress towards meeting state/district graduation requirements for this school year. Counselors will be following up with students regularly.

  •  ISAT: All ISAT testing has been canceled by the State of Idaho for the 2019-2020 school year.

  • SAT: The SAT for all juniors and seniors has been canceled and the graduation requirement has been waived for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.

  • Senior Projects: The presentation requirement has been waived for 2019-2020.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact teachers by email or their phone extension at school. Teachers will be checking messages frequently.

If I can help in any way, please feel free to contact me at aoparnico@buhlschools.org or 208-543-8262 ext. 200.

Thank you,

Angie Oparnico
