Welcome and welcome back, Popplewell Families,
On behalf of the entire staff, I hope that you have enjoyed a restful, relaxing, and extended summer! As I begin my eighth year at Popplewell, I am grateful for the staff, students, and families in my life, and I am ready to see everyone again during our Open House on Monday, August 17. I want to express my appreciation for the support of students, staff, and the community during our COVID-19 pandemic closure, during the March closure. The 2020-2021 school year is going to be starting in a new normal. At this time, we will begin school in a face-to-face setting, this may be school in the traditional fashion or a modified schedule, which are in person. Our leadership team and I have spent part of the summer working hard to create a plan for the COVID-19 plan. The Popplewell plan will be posted on the Buhl School District website when it is approved. Any changes in learning will be made
in consultation with the South Central Health Department, Idaho State Department of Education, State Board of Education, Buhl School District Board, and our new Superintendent Wil Overgaard.
Although the plan is much larger and changing daily, I wanted to touch base with families on a few important things. First and foremost, be assured we are doing our best to maintain a calm school opening. We have been working closely with the South Central Health Department with their guidance implementing some new procedures. The health department will give the district guidance on which category to begin school.
On August 3 and 4, 2020, Popplewell will have our registration. This registration is going to be from 8 to 6 both days. The additional day and time is so we may social distance. Please be patient with the new procedures everyone is asked to follow.
Popplewell Elementary will be holding an Open House on August 17. This Open House will be for parents to bring their child to school, meet the teacher, bring school supplies, and address their child's concerns with returning to school. Please use the hand sanitizer when walking in school, it is highly recommended to use masks when entering the building.
On August 18, it will be the first day of school. The Buhl School District has required health practices that must be implemented by Popplewell. These practices are foundational to minimizing the risks of exposure to COVID-19 for students, staff, and families. Parents, guardians, and others are asked to drop their children off at the front of the school. There will be no non-essential people allowed in the building until we are instructed differently. This year students will enter the building and go directly to their classrooms for temperature checks.
Please try and provide a mask for your child that can be taken back and forth to school. Parents will need to care for the cleaning of the masks. We will have some masks at school but in a limited amount.
If your child needs picked-up early, you will be asked to call the school for entry, use the hand sanitizer, and wear a mask.
The grade-levels will have COVID plans, accommodating student age-appropriate safeguarding in their classrooms. The District has an operational plan listed on the buhlschools.org website. Individual school plans will be listed on the buhlschools.org website when approved.
Thank you again for your attention to the many details of the new school year! As the start of school draws closer, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions that you have.
Warm Regards,
Cynthia Cooper, Principal Popplewell Elementary
